Search Engine Keyword Research 101

Let’s take a look at how our search engine keyword research works.

Joe wants to market his keyword selector tool, so we’ll look at the phrase “keyword selector tool” as a keyword.

We enter the keyword into our SEO keyword suggestion tool.

The results show that the phrase “keyword selector tool” gets 12,100 searches a month.

Now we do an all-in-title search and find that there are only 57,700 sites matching those words, which means that this may be a very good word to go after and rank for.

There are a number of ways that Joe can use this information to bump up his rank, including to create a few blogs, articles and one way links and he should be #1 on page 1 in no time at all.

Search Engine Keyword Optimization

When clients contact me for assistance, they provide me with a list of keywords they feel are important. Using our tools I am able to ascertain what words are useful to them and which ones can be ignored. When I go to a site for the first time, I look to see what words they already use in their site content. I look up a few words in our tracker and can see some words that can be used to up the client’s rank.

I take one of the words that has lower advertiser competition and perform an all-in-title search. This is the easiest and most overlooked step. Go to Google.com and type in allintitle: and add your keyword. In the case of Joe’s keyword, it will look like this: “allintitle:keyword selector tool” and hit the search button. You will see 57,700 sites for “allintitle:keyword selector tool” This means this keyword will not be as tough to get with some work.

Take the time to play around with your own keywords and see what keywords are being overlooked. The trick is to find a higher search count compared to low competition.
